The History of London Heliport...

Battersea Heliport originally started life back in 1959 when planning permission was obtained from central government to operate under a series of permissions.

Following closure of the City of London floating helipad at Trigg Lane in 1985, Battersea Heliport, located in Lombard Road on the Battersea riverside, became the only CAA licensed heliport serving the city of London. This remains the position today and the London Heliport continues to provide an essential service to the business community and local emergency services, such as the London Air Ambulance (HEMS).

Over the past few years the heliport has changed hands on numerous occasions, and in 2007 the previous operators Weston Aviation Limited, who originally purchased the Heliport in 2003 from the Harrods organisation, sold the heliport to von Essen hotels with the contract for operating the heliport being awarded to PremiAir Aviation Group.

The Present and Future...

In February 2007 the ownership of the heliport was transferred from Weston Aviation to the von Essen Group, who appointed PremiAir Aviation to operate the heliport. Soon after the heliport was acquired, von Essen also acquired the PremiAir Aviation Group, who are the largest UK operator of executive helicopters and who managed the von Essen helicopter fleet for a number of years under a strategic partnership.

The von Essen hotels acquisition of the heliport included a new hotel development which will be located on the adjacent Bridges Wharf site. The new building will house the state of the art executive aviation facility, offering fantastic panoramic views across the heliport and river Thames for passengers and visitors. Incorporating a new Air Traffic Control facility, meeting & conference rooms and VIP lounges, the new terminal will offer an unprecedented level of comfort, technology, safety and convenience all in elegant surroundings.

The new hotel and terminal development is current well underway and is expected to be completed in April 2009.
